Alvin J. Hubbell, age 92, passed away peacefully at his residence with his wife Janet and step daughter Janet Lee at his side. He was the son of the late Rodrick and Johanna (Freese) Hubbell. Alvin was born June 8, 1926 in Rossford, Ohio – Wood County.
He retired from Libby Owens Ford in 1979. He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving on the following armed vessels: SS Norman Hap Good (Old Kaiser Liberty Ship) from October 22, 1943 to February 1, 1945, The SS Cape May C-1 Cargo Ship from March 14, 1945 to October 11, 1945, and a USS Rescue Hospital Ship. Discharged as Seaman first class on March 13, 1946. Alvin was a life member of the VFW Post 2984 Northwood, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife Janet (Bradley) Hubbell , three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great granddaughters. Also step-daughter Janet Lee (Tim) Scott and Step-Son Ken (Denise) Stambaugh; six step grandsons and eight great step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Billie of 50 years, sons Denver and Dallas Hubbell, daughter Jerri Breuer, a grandson, one daughter-in-law, one brother-in-law, two sister-in-laws, two brothers, two sisters, four half-brothers, two half-sisters, and one step-son.
Alvin loved the Mount Vernon area, keeping his lawn well cared for, tinkering in the garage, building bird houses and other wood projects. He enjoyed dinning out with his wife Janet and taking care of his new Ford Escape. He had a great sense of humor and at times was as ornery as they come. Alvin was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
The family is planning a Memorial Service in the spring.
