Anita M. Barron, age 75, of Mount Vernon, passed away February 10, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born February 21, 1942 in Gallipolis, Ohio. She was the daughter of Garland and Alma Caudill.
Anita was a graduate of Gallia Academy, Gallipolis, Ohio. She graduated with honors from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Police Officer's Training Academy. Anita served with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office for 5 years and the Westerville Police Department for 18 years. She was awarded Civilian of the Year in 1987 and Police Officer of the Year in 1997. She was Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Minerva Chapter #101 and of Mount Vernon Chapter #236. Anita was an accomplished seamstress, oil painter, and avid gardener. Her strength and generosity were the foundation of her life. She was deeply loved and will be forever remembered for the legacy she left.
Anita is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph R. Barron, two sons Dan (Heather) Barron of Naples, Florida and Mike (Kathi Baker) Barron of Howard; one daughter Jenny (Brad) Priest of Pataskala; nine grandchildren, Christine, Alex, Ashley, Austin, Katie, Will, Jack, Annemarie and Zoie; two brothers Edwin (Maxine) Caudill and Wayne Caudill; one sister Mollie O'Meara Huff; two sister-in-law’s Jeannie Caudill and Sandi VanNoy; a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jim Caudill.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, where a Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 PM with Robert L. Thomas, Pastor, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made in Anita’s memory to Hospice of Knox County.
