Barbara Jean Butler, age 79, of Mount Vernon, passed away October 9, 2018 at the Knox Community Hospital. She was born to Reese Coleman and Nancy (Darling) Butler on February 10, 1939.
She was a member of the of the Mount Vernon High School Class of 1957. She received her Bachelor of Art, Bachelor of Science in Education, and Master of Library Science degrees from Kent State University.
Barbara was employed as a cataloger for the Detroit Public Library and a reference Librarian for the Public Libraries of the Columbus, Akron, and Mount Vernon, from which she retired in 1996 after 35 years of service. She had over 2000 hours of volunteer service at the Knox Community Hospital. She also volunteered at the American Red Cross and Public Library of Mount Vernon.
She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was also a member of the Gambier Fishing Club and Knox Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her friend Jean Wolford of MountVernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Lasater Funeral Home from 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon, where the Funeral Service will begin at 12:00. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery.
