Carolyn L. Allar

Carolyn Frances Lord Allar, born June 13, 1940 in Mount Vernon, Ohio,  died, Thursday, April 11 in Mount Vernon, Ohio.   In between:  a lifetime enriched by music, family, and service.


Her parents were Francis Morrell Lord and Jessie May Huggins. Grandparents:  Raymond Sterling Lord and Carrie Little Paul; Riley Miller Huggins and Mary Alice Snider


A 1958 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Carolyn attended The Ohio State University, studying music performance and education.  While still in High School, she was invited by Dr. Paul Schwartz to play string bass in the newly formed Knox County Symphony.  Taking a break to raise a family, she returned to the Symphony, soon to be under the direction of Dr Benjamin Locke, retiring in 2005.  She served 14 years in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard (Sr. Master Sergeant), and worked as a cataloguer at the Kenyon College Library for nearly 25 years.


Carolyn is survived by her Aunt, Dorothy Huggins Rex; her sister, Toma Henrietta Lord; Her children, Kenneth, Phillip (Rebecca Balser), Katherine (Bobby Spearman), and David Allar.   And the shining stars of her crown, grandchildren:  Adam Francis, Cameron Joseph McPhail, India May, Edison William, and Riley Lyn;   great-grandson, Cole Alexander.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Gay Street United Methodist Church on May 10, 2019 at 10:30am. A fellowship meal will follow at the Church, with a graveside service taking place at Mound View Cemetery at 1:30pm with the Rev. John Capper presiding.
