Dale O. Butler

Dale Orville Butler, age 89 of Mount Vernon, passed away on August 7, 2019. He was born on September 4, 1929 in Homer to Clarence and Olive (Bird) Butler.

He graduated from Gambier High School and on October 29, 1949 he married Patricia Taylor.

Dale served in the Ohio National Guard during the Korean War. He was a firefighter for the City of Mount Vernon from December 1952- December 1981. He then served as EMA Director for Knox County, and was instrumental in bringing 911 to the County.

In his off time he worked for the Rudins Department Store , laying carpet, and operating the A&W Drive In. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Cam Ram Grotto and Exchange Club.

He is survived by his sister, Carol Leckliter; and his children: David (Karen) Butler, R. Dennis (Soni) Butler, Gayanne (J. Patrick) Clifford, Barbi (Dan) Neighbarger; grandchildren; Lisa (Tracy) Hunter, Craig (Sharon) Ores, Sean Butler, Jordan (Christy) Butler, Alex (Jenny) Clifford, Adrianne (Anthony) Todd, Amber (Brian) Bierkortte, Stephen (Kristen) Neighbarger; great-grandchildren, Amberly (Preston) Boyd, Kalie (Jordan) Farmer Skyler, Owen and Wyatt Butler, Gracelyn and Lydia Butler, Eric and Emily Clifford, Michaela and Mackenzie Todd, Kennedy and Tyler Bierkortte, Hunter Auck, Rachel Hunter; great great-grandchildren, Rowen and Nora Boyd; along with several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia, and infant son, Stephen, sisters, Eileen Beeman and Betty Mills, and a great grandson Lincoln Neighbarger.

Friends may call on Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 12 noon – 2:00 PM at Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd. in Mount Vernon, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
