Harley L. Dexter, age 86, of Mount Vernon, passed away October 12, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 18, 1931 in Mount Vernon to Harry and Flora B. (Wheeler) Dexter.
Harley was a United States Army Veteran serving during WWII and the Korean War. He was a Past Commander and member of the American Legion, AMVETS, VFW; former member of Elks # 140 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
He retired after 31 years from the State Liquor Store. Harley was a former Deputy Sheriff and the owner operator of Dexter's Trucking and Disposal Service.
He is survived by his wife of 41years, Helen I. (Ferguson) Dexter; two daughters, Jessica Dexter and Jenifer (Joe) Curran both of Mount Vernon; two sons Allen (Melissa) Dexter and Stephen (Bev) Dexter both of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Tharp of Mount Vernon and Jo Ann Wilson of Ankenytown, and his dog Cooper.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 16 from 11:00-1:00 PM, where the funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Mark Wildermuth officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
