To the Newland family. My name is Kevin Wright. I live in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. I had a most wonderful experience when I met Don at the library in Mount Vernon. We started up a conversation about the Bible (which I learned so much about in such a short time) as well as things to where we were from. I told him that I remembered his brothers Bob and Chuck but especially Norm as well as the Teddy Bear. I grew up in Wapakoneta. I just recently read an article written by Dan Newland about the Teddy Bear. That was what made me think about Don today. I was very sorry to hear of his passing. My prayers and condolences go out to the Newland family. May he always rest in peace and be with the Lord.

Irma and Family, I have many fond memories of Don. First I was a youth at Gay Street MT.V when he was at Utica and the district had sub-district youth leaders, I was the youth and Don was the clergy, (probably from Knox County) in the old Mansfield district. Then I became a pastor and he stayed as a friend when he was in Sunbury and on through my years. Later, in 1982 I became the Pastor in Utica and came to learn about his leadership during and after the great fire of 1963 that destroyed the church and led to the building of a new building with an outdoor chapel and service that he started. He was one of my mentors and friends in ministry. He was warm and funny, and a humble leader. Thoughts and prayer in your loss and JOY in all our memories of Don. Daniel Drew

When I was interim pastor at Hopewell UMC Don was so helpful in bringing me up to speed. He pointed me to people who needed pastoral care and filled me in on all the issues facing the church. He was a good pastor, a good man, a good Christian. I'm grateful to have known him and understand the loss to his family and church. May God support you all through your grieving.
