John Chauncey Earlywine of Mt. Vernon, Ohio met his Savior on December 23, 2020. He was born May 1, 1933 in Bladensburg, Ohio, the son of the late Dwight and Harriet (Crow) Earlywine and grandson of Ray and Grace Earlywine.
John was a descendant from a long line of Earlywine Ohio settlers taking up residence in Jackson Township in the early 1800s. The Earlywines farmed the land east of Bladensburg until it no longer provided an economical way of living.
At age 11 John made the decision to be baptized and believe in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, whom he served in exchange for the hope of life after death. John is a 1951 graduate of Bladensburg High School. In the fall 1955 he was introduced to the beautiful, talented, Christian young lady, Barbara Ann Phillips, and they were married on March 31,1957. John worked 24 years at the Mt. Vernon News. He retired in 2001 after 21 years of employment at the Audit Bureau of Circulations in Chicago, IL. John and Barbara have faithfully served the Lord at Victory Church of Christ for the last 40 years. John enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and spending time with family, especially the grandchildren. He most often could be found in the garden. It was a way of life for him and Barbara which supplied fresh vegetables for their family and many others.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara Ann (Phillips) Earlywine; sons, Philip Earlywine of Mt. Vernon, David (Carla) Earlywine of Cincinnati; daughters Lisa (Gary) Gray of Bucyrus, Kathy (Shane) Fields of Fredericktown; grandchildren Ryan, Hannah, Lily, Cheris, Amber, Abree, Trevor, Katie, Kara and Travis; sister Patricia Mickley of Mt. Vernon; brothers Bob (Dorothy) Earlywine of Garden City, MO and Jim (Anita) Earlywine of Danville.
John was preceded in death by his sister Jayne Mastroianni and grandson Tyler Fields.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
