Valerie (Butler) Johnson, born November 30, 1956 went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on Thursday, April 1st, 2021 with her loving and devoted husband by her side after a very brief battle with cancer.
Survived by her parents, Walter and Vera Butler; her loving husband of 43 years, Charles; her two children, Joe (Valerie) Johnson, Rachael (Heath) Fesler; grandchildren, Dominick, Colten, Caleb, Weston, Alivia, and Jack. By her sister, Victoria (Dan) Crowthers, brother, Bruce Butler, brother, Randy (Barb) Butler, sister, Teresa (Bill) Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a nephew, Michael Crowthers; niece, Sarah Ruth Butler; and brother in law, Dan Crowthers.
She was a 1975 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. She briefly pursued a career in nursing school. She married Charles Dwight Johnson, September 3, 1977 and became his devoted wife, following him wherever their ministry took them. She was a pastor’s wife and a mom. She used her talents and gifts wherever and whenever she could. She sometimes taught kindergarten, Sunday school classes, led ladies Bible studies, coordinated meals for the sick, countless hours of watching and loving on other people’s babies. The list is endless.
She was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church of Mount Vernon for many years. Serving and continuing to help in any way she could.
Her biggest accomplishment by far was family. Family was everything to her. She raised two kids as a stay at home mom and spent as much time as she could with all her grandbabies.
She loved collecting cookbooks, filling her yard with flowers, and she was the world’s best cook. She appreciated all of God’s beautiful creations and the simple things of life. She never complained and had the biggest heart full of God’s love for those around her.
To know her was to love her. She will be deeply missed by all.
Calling hours will be held at the Faith Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, where the funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Matt Otto officiating. The family will observe a private burial.
The family is requesting memorial donation to be made in Valerie's memory to Faith Baptist Church, American Cancer Society, or to St. Jude's.
