Velma Louise (Bailey-Nyhart Hartwick, age 103, passed away June20, 2021 at the Country Club Retirement Center surrounded by her family. She was born to Thuman Jay and Lavina Mae (Dennis) Bailey on July 1, 1917 in Knox County, where she lived all her life.
Velma was a LPN and was employed by the former Mercy Hospital and the Mount Vernon Developmental Center from where she retired. She was long time member of the North Bend Church of the Brethren in Danville and founded the Perry Group of Mount Vernon. She loved to bake, crochet, and spend time with her family. She also enjoyed traveling for Olan Mills Studios.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Mae (Nyhart-Buckland) Neely of Danville, eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Edsel Nyhart, her second husband A.V. (Ray) Hartwick, her daughter Sandra Kay (Nyhart) Patterson; one great-grandson, one sister Lucille Mills, and brother Herbert Bailey.
Friends may call on Monday June 28, 2021 from 11:00-1:00PM at the Lasater Funeral Home, where the funeral service will begin at 1:00PM with Pastor Patrick Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
