William M. “Bill” Kidd, age 79, of Mount Vernon, passed away May 15, 2021 in care of Hospice of Central Ohio at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. He was born March 13, 1942 in Mount Vernon to William M. and Edith (Simpson) Kidd.
Bill graduated from Bladensburg High School and from the Andrew Barber College in Columbus in 1961. He worked 48 years in the business. Bill started out in Coshocton, Mount Vernon, and Bladensburg and after serving two years in the Army came back to Mount Vernon for 39 years. He retired, from his business, the Vine Street Barber Shop. He officiated high school and some small college basketball for 14 years and umpired high school baseball. He also coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. He was a Cub Master at the First Christian Church, and also helped with Boy Scouts. Bill was a member and Past Master of the Ohio Lodge #199, Past President of the 19th Masonic District Association, Past Worthy Patron of Glenwood Chapter #303 Order of the Eastern Star. Bill was a member of the First Christian Church and was a United States Army Veteran. His hobbies included building furniture, jewelry boxes, and many other wood projects for his family.
He is survived by his son Mark R. (Dr. Sandra) Ferguson of Coventry Township, one grandson Nathan (Charlotte) Loyd of Amherst, great grandchildren Kaya and Saige Loyd of Amherst, and Ezra Holmes (Loyd) of Denver; numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend Sandra Petry of Howard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley Kidd in 2015, grandson Aaron Loyd in 2016, and two sisters Gloria June Miller and Dona Jean Wells.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday May 20, 2021 at the Lasater Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 PM with the Masonic Service beginning at 7:00PM, where the funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery in Utica with Military Honors provided by Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
